Description: A toolkit to create and control daemons in different ways
Long Description: Daemons provides an easy way to wrap existing ruby scripts (for example a self-written server) to be run as a daemon and to be controlled by simple start/stop/restart commands. You can also call blocks as daemons and control them from the parent or just daemonize the current process. Besides this basic functionality, daemons offers many advanced features like exception backtracing and logging (in case your ruby script crashes) and monitoring and automatic restarting of your processes if they crash.

If you haven't already installed Darwin Ports, you can find easy instructions for doing so at the main Darwin Ports page.
Once Darwin Ports has been installed, in a terminal window and while online, type the following and hit return:

%  cd /opt/local/bin/portslocation/dports/rb-daemons
%  sudo port install rb-daemons  
Password: 

You will then be prompted for your root password, which you should enter. You may have to wait for a few minutes while the software is retrieved from the network and installed for you. Y ou should see something that looks similar to:

--->  Fetching rb-daemons
--->  Verifying checksum for rb-daemons
--->  Extracting rb-daemons
--->  Configuring rb-daemons
--->  Building rb-daemons with target all

--->  Staging rb-daemons into destroot

--->  Installing rb-daemons

- Make sure that you do not close the terminal window while Darwin Ports is working. Once the software has been installed, you can find further information about using rb-daemons with these commands:

%  man rb-daemons
%  apropos rb-daemons
%  which rb-daemons
%  locate rb-daemons
